What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a way to learn to relate
directly to everything that happens in your
life; a way to take responsibility for your
life, a way of doing something for yourself,
something that no one else can do for you -
to consciously and systematically deal with
the challenges and demands of your
everyday life.
Mindfulness is not what you get or can
acquire. It is already in us - a deep inner
resource that is available and patiently
waiting to be discovered and used in terms
of learning and growing.
Mindfulness Training
Training in mindfulness empowers us to
move from “autopilot” to the “being” mode.
Mindfulness arises spontaneously out of this
being, as we learn to see things as they are
- with a conscious, attentive, open,
accepting and non-judgemental attitude.
Advantages of a Regular Mindfulness Practice
Neuroplasticity proves that, in deed, "an old dog can learn new tricks". There have been
several representative studies carried out on "normal" people who could actively and
sustainably influence and change their brain patterns through mindfuless meditation in the
course of only 8 weeks (see MBSR).
Numerous psychological studies have shown that people who meditate are much happier
than the average person bcause positive emotions are in close relation to a longer and
happier life. Practicing on a regular basis has further positive effects:
•
Reduction in anxiety, depression, burn-out and irritability
•
Increase in memory performance and improved response times
•
Increase in mental and physical endurance
•
Increase in emotional resilience, i.e. the ability to easier cope with setbacks of life
•
Increase in empathy and therefore emotional intelligence and social skills
•
a more successful and happier life in your partnership
•
Strengthening of the immune system and thus prevents colds, flu-like infections and
other diseases
•
Decrease in certain stress indicators of chronic stress (e.g. high blood pressure,
insomnia)
•
Reduction of symptoms of severe diseases (e.g. cancer, chronic pain)
•
Supportive treatment of drug / alcohol and smoking addiction
